…the police have come too late to the notion that they are there to “protect†lives. “The law,†wrote James Baldwin, “is meant to be my servant and not my master, still less my torturer and my murderer.†Those who call for law and order now must understand that there is no order because men with badges have been acting lawlessly.

…a small girl saw my drone hovering in the sky and asked her mother what it was. I heard the mother answer, “It’s a drone, and if you don’t do your homework, it’s going to go after you!â€

That’s the last thought I wrote in comment to a story I linked to last year about the militarization of the police. Maybe I’ll have more to say about it in the future, but in the meantime here’s a collection of stories on the subject in relation to the brutality in Ferguson, Missouri. Of course, the story in Ferguson is as much about institutional brutality towards non-white (namely black) persons. The two are mixing together in a potentially devastating way there.
After Ferguson, how should police respond to protests?

Gamer Seinfeld
I loved GameSpot present The Hotspot, particularly the Brendan Sinclair era. He really is the ideal host, with his deadpan delivery and delightful sense of humor. This episode was one of my favorites if, for no other reason, than the “homework” at the end … game-oriented stand-up comedy. Sinclair delivers the perfect imitation of Seinfeld if he were a gamer. To hear the comedy routine, jump ahead to 1:30:00.
