A lot has been written about the folly of free software, and Google’s choice in particular. I think Manjoo does a good job of covering why free software may not be the best choice, i.e. longevity. I’ve been trying to be better about supporting the developers of the software I use for just this reason.

I thought it interesting that though the author touched on it he didn’t make the connection between the denial of secret menus and nutrition posting requirements. Mo doubt that if the companies officially endorse the menus they would have to produce the nutrition information for them.
But i don’t have a gripe against them for that. what i really wanted to say was that I love the flexibility some restaurants have with their product. I think that not only does it lead to greater customer loyalty, but probably makes it easier on the staff, too. Though I can imagine learning all the secret menu items can be difficult, at least you can feign ignorance.
A good summary of the good and bad that came from the discovery of how to fix nitrogen. But the prize goes to the following part.
…to loosen it up, they drilled holes in it, stuck some dynamite in, and lit the fuse. The resulting blast killed more than 500 people (including those workers), destroyed 80 percent of the homes in the town, and ripped the roofs off of homes 15 miles away.
US Muslim placed on no-fly list is unable to see his ailing mother
Perhaps one of the most disappointing aspects of the Obama administration is its continued and expanded use of secrecy where national security is even tangentially involved, all while actually doing good work in other areas to open up access to government data. The no-fly list seems to offer little protection to the U.S. from terrorists while showing signs of being used excessively and in an abusive manner. The fact that U.S. citizens can be added with little recourse and no judicial oversight just shows how far this program has moved from the ideal of justice and fairness we have come to expect (whether justified or not) from our government.
And an update here: US Air Force veteran, finally allowed to fly into US, is now banned from flying back home
I love you with every appendage I have.

Flight into Atlanta was delayed. Went from D concourse to C. Made my connection with one minute to spare. Sometimes air travel just works out.
